I attended the first meeting of “Occupy New Hampshire” yesterday.  Plans are going forward for a “General Assembly” in Manchester Thursday evening and another Sunday afternoon in Concord.  You can find out more by searching for “Occupy New Hampshire” on Facebook.   439 people “like” this page, about twice as many as the number that “liked” it 24 hours ago.  

The meeting brought together a small group of people from several parts of the state, most of whom did not know each other.  Communication is going on mostly over Facebook (including during the meeting!).  This is a new form for me.

The General Assembly will probably feel like a cross between a union meeting, a Quaker meeting, a Clamshell Alliance meeting, and a rally.   I’ll let you know.

It’s still too soon to see whether this is a flash in the pan or the start of something big. You never can tell. Historically, a lot of big things start out small and messy. It doesn’t happen very often, but it happens.

I’ve got questions, too, but it’s hard not to be enthusiastic about a movement led by young adults who are taking nonviolent action to protest the domination of our political and economic systems by giant corporations and the super-rich.
